DAVID Cameron, Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg and Boris Johnson joined forces last night to back calls to name the Big Ben clock tower after the Queen.
The four spoke out after The Sun's "Big Ben v Big Liz" story yesterday revealed a cross-party bid to change its official name to Elizabeth Tower.
The PM believes it is a perfect way to mark the Diamond Jubilee. Mr Cameron said: "It's a really great idea and would be a fitting tribute."
Deputy PM Mr Clegg added: "The Jubilee is an occasion the whole country is keen to celebrate."
Labour leader Mr Miliband told The Sun it would recognise Her Majesty's "amazing service".
London mayor Mr Johnson added: "I think this is an excellent way of honouring Her Majesty." The man behind the campaign, Tory MP Tobias Ellwood, stressed the tower would continue to be known to millions as Big Ben, after its 13.5-ton main bell.

But he said it would be a fitting honour to change its official name.A similar tribute was paid to Queen Victoria in 1860 when Parliament's King's Tower was changed to Victoria Tower. A Commons motion backing the Elizabeth Tower was unveiled yesterday.
