The Recue Man by Anthony Quinn

The World War 11 blitz of Liverpool is the background for this intriguing novel of obsession and betrayal. Tom Baines is a historian with two passions, architecture and the photographer’s wife he meets during his work dragging survivors from the rubble for the Heavy Rescue Team. Wartime Liverpool, the daily bombings by the German Luftwaffe, the  blackouts and street scenes are graphically described; even bringing back vivid memories of my own childhood at this time. I rather enjoyed this gripping love story - Quinn’s first novel - and I hope his second one will be an equally pleasant read.
